The Whitefish Community Foundation is pleased to announce the award of a Major Community Project Grant to the Whitefish Theatre Company for new light board and sound mixer. The grant award of $23,600 was selected through a competitive application process this summer. Seven very worthy projects requested funding from the grant program started last year by the Community Foundation. Funding for the award comes from interest from the Foundation’s Permanent Endowment Fund, a gift from the Kramer Family Fund and private donors.
The Theatre project was an excellent fit for the Major Grant Award this year. The Theatre Company had already raised significant funding to replace the outdated technical equipment that was installed back when the O’Shaughnessy Center was built in 1998. The facility is regularly used not only by Whitefish Theatre, but by many organizations around the Flathead including Glacier Symphony, Feat by Feet Tap Company, Alpine Theatre Project, North Valley Music School, Bob Marshall Wilderness Association, Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation and many others. This grant will help with the immediate and future needs of Whitefish Theatre Company as it fulfills its mission of “nurturing the creative and artistic passions of our community by bringing the arts to life.”
The grant was presented at the Whitefish Theatre Company Season Kick-Off Celebration September 9. The Theatre Company now in its 34th year maintains the O’Shaughnessy Center which hosts over 111 theatrical, musical, film and special events each year as well as 72 classes. The Foundation’s Major Grant Program is intended to impact a significant number of people through its reach and the Whitefish Theatre Company’s project clearly accomplishes this.
