While fundraising continues, June Munski-Feenan and the folks at the North Valley Food Bank are planning their ground breaking ceremony May 10 at 5 PM. It will be a festive occasion with board members and supporters sporting their hard hats and shovels.
North Valley Food Bank Volunteers
at their current location
In 2012, the food bank supported an average of 150 households a week and provided over 343,000 pounds of food during the year. After 25 years in their current location with three expansions during that time, the food bank has outgrown this space. They purchased property near the Whitefish Emergency Services building off of Baker Avenue and began fundraising over a year ago.
The fundraising goal is $1.5 million dollars with $1 million planned for the building and the remainder to build their Endowment Fund. The plan is to build the endowment fund to a level where the interest payments will readily address the nonprofit’s needs as they occur, including new equipment and other operational needs. While well on their way to their goal, the project cannot be completed without additional donations of money, materials and volunteer labor. They hope to be in their new building by next winter.
Donations may be mailed to North Valley Food Bank, 311 East 1st Street, Whitefish, MT 59937. If you have building/contracting experience and would like to volunteer a day, a week, or more of your time, contact Jerry Quinn at 253-3148 or Mark Schmidt at 250-6653.
